Friday night is the gala reveal of the prize winners in the Great Deep Cove Folk Song Writing Competition!!! The three prize winners will be present to sing their songs celebrating life on the Saanich Peninsula. As well, the Honourable Mentions will be announced. To top things off, a very special mystery guest, an icon of Canadian folk music, will be performing for us as well. This’ll all be quite special!!! A celebration of life in our part of the world… The gala will take the place of the usual open mic.
And as if things couldn’t get better, the evening will be topped off by a set featuring Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Brian Robertson along with champion fiddler Michael Burnyeat. This duo has forged a wonderful musical partnership over many years, bringing a wide range of songs and instrumental tunes to their audiences. Brian is a noted singer-songwriter perhaps best known for his finely crafted songs of the west coast and Michael is a nationally recognized champion fiddler (BC Open Champion and a multi-time high ranking finalist in the Canadian Grandmaster competition) as well as a highly sought after accompanist (David Francey, JimJam etc.). Check out Brian’s website at www.brianrobertson.ca and Michael’s extensive YouTube presence, then come and be prepared to hear some unique and engaging songs of place leavened with high energy fiddle tune sets.
So be sure to mark Friday on your calendars—it will be a very special night, not to be missed.
