Deep Cove Folk is most pleased to announce the release of Saanich Songs: An Anthology of Songs About the Saanich Peninsula and Environs. This is a collection of ten songs which includes the seven selected for prizes and honourable mentions in our recent Deep Cove Folk Song Project, plus a few others. Each song includes: an introductory essay, full lyrics, a link to a recording, and a link to a chord chart.

We’re beginning to think of this version as the nucleus of a project that could grow as we’re able to locate more relevant songs. We’ll scour the traditional stuff looking for possible candidates, and expect that there are lots of others already “out there.” If you know of any that you think would fit, please let us know (email: info@deepcovefolk.ca). For the moment we’re pretty strong on “gee, it’s nice to live here” songs, so we’re especially looking for ballads with substantial historical connections and songs that deal with social issues situated on the Peninsula. Humourous songs located here wouldn’t go astray either. And, of course, any First Nations material would be warmly received. Any and all ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Take a listen to these songs—they’re pretty special… a bit of summer relaxtion and folky music to listen to now that our 2023-2024 season is complete. See you on September 13, 2024 when we get back at it once more…..
