with Stringband’s Marie-Lynn Hammond, Ben Mink, Calvin Cairns and Paul Gellman & Dinah D.

PLUS Special guests.

After a half century of performing, Bob Bossin is hanging up the banjo. Considered by some a national treasure, Bob founded the legendary folk group Stringband; he authored Davy the Punk, brewed Bossin’s Home Remedy for Nuclear War and made the videos Sulphur Passage (No pasaran) and Only one bear in a hundred bites but they don’t come in order. Now, at 72, Bob is giving up the road or, as he describes it, “getting out of town ahead of the posse.” But not without one last, surely memorable, concert reuniting Stringband – Marie-Lynn Hammond, Ben Mink, Calvin Cairns, with Paul Gellman and Dinah D.

Pete Seeger, one of many to cover Bossin’s songs, called Bob “funny, informative and inspiring at the same time.” (For songs like “Show Us the Length”, “Dief Will Be the Chief Again”, “Ya Wanna Marry Me” and “The Secret of Life According to Satchel Paige.” ) Said Stuart Maclean, “Like Gordon Lightfoot or Monique Leyrac, like Margaret Atwood or Robertson Davies, Stringband made you proud to be Canadian. They skated through the coffee houses and concert halls with the grace of Bobby Orr and the passion of Rocket Richard.”

Why the farewell? Says Bob, “I figure Sandy Koufax had it right: I want to retire at the top of my game… Well, almost at the top. And I want a grand going-away party! Great musicians, new songs, old favourites and old friends. What could be better?”
